Scroll down the home page to 'The People Here' section and look at the 'pre-1792 history'. This refers to a Hugh Botting who owned this property in the 1500's until 1628. The tudor building called 'The Bower' which one passes on the way to Hammerwood Park could well have been his dwelling.
